Hobart’s walk-in enoteca trades in vinyl records, thoughtful pours, and handmade pasta. Regulars queue along Elizabeth Street for a stool at the communal bar—and with good reason. The room runs on the warmth of an analog hi-fi system, spinning vinyl through custom speakers that keep the sound textured without drowning out conversation. Bartenders steer guests through an ever-shifting roster of local and international bottles, matching glasses to a small, farm-driven kitchen lineup. Expect seasonal plates turned out from the tight open counter: shucked oysters, sweet tomatoes, and bowls of fresh pasta.

    The menu is not extensive, but every dish we tried was exceptional. We started with the “lovely” cheese plate (an apt description), followed by a divine caramelised onion toast, beautifully braised goat, and a broccoli pasta that was surprisingly complex and satisfying.

    Sonny operates strictly on a walk-in basis with no advance bookings, often resulting in lines outside. Aim to arrive right at opening or earlier in the evening to secure seats without an extended wait.

    The kitchen serves a deliberately focused, concise menu with small plates, handmade pasta, and set platters rather than custom substitutions, so plan on ordering dishes as designed.
