Is Hobart in July a practical base for solo day trips?

I have nine days and want markets, winter activities and possible trips to Bruny Island, Port Arthur or the east coast.

    July can still suit a city stay, but plan for short daylight, rain and cold. Keep flexible days for longer nature trips.
